Digital Communications Officer

The Office of Mayor Olivia Chow is hiring a Digital Communications Officer to facilitate our digital storytelling, shape online engagement, and help bring the Mayor’s vision to life online.

Reporting to the Manager of Digital Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will be a key contributor to the Mayor’s digital presence and brand across all platforms. This includes executing an integrated digital strategy across platforms, producing online content from end-to-end, and using data and analytics to track progress and adapt our digital direction.

We are seeking an experienced and creative digital leader who:

  • Has a natural inclination towards storytelling,
  • Is confident behind a camera and turning content around quickly,
  • Has a keen eye on local politics and communities,
  • Is an early adopter of digital platforms, understanding trends and best practices; and
  • Has a deep understanding of how digital platforms can connect and engage Torontonians, to highlight the Mayor’s priorities in an authentic way.

Responsibilities

  • Be a key participant and producer in the execution of the Mayor’s digital communications strategy across all platforms, including the tracking of Key Performance Indicators and analytics
  • Collaborate across teams in the Mayor's Office, City of Toronto staff, and stakeholders to create and manage digital conten
  • Plan and execute high-quality content—including live clips, short-form social videos, and storytelling pieces—that support the Mayor’s priorities and connect with a wide range of audiences across platforms
  • Work with the Manager of Digital Communications, and Deputy Chief of Staff, Communications to develop messaging for copy and scripts in digital content
  • Collaborate with policy and communications colleagues to translate complex issues into clear, engaging digital narratives
  • Track analytics, evaluate performance, and use data to continuously improve reach and impact
  • Monitor trends in digital engagement and stay up-to-date on best practices
  • Develop paid and organic strategies to expand audience engagement
  • Support rapid response and crisis communications in the digital space
  • Regularly update and populate the Mayor’s website with engaging content

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

5+ years experience in digital communications, creative production, public affairs, or related fields

Proven Success

  • Executing complex digital campaigns
  • Demonstrated strategic storytelling
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines and work collaboratively in a fast paced environment

Proficient

  • Video production, including scripting, filming, editing, and optimizing for social platforms, and writing for web
  • Video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, CapCut)
  • Understanding of social media platforms, their respective audiences, and current trends

Intermediate

  • Demonstrated political ability to translate complex ideas into compelling, accessible content
  • Skilled in using data and analytics tools to assess impact and adapt strategy

Preferred, not required

  • Work experience in a political office or government
  • Experience working on municipal issues
  • Experience with equity-focused storytelling with Toronto’s diverse communities

This is a full-time position based at Toronto City Hall. The role involves occasional evening and weekend work to respond to events and manage timely digital engagement.

Full-time indefinite contract for the duration of the term of office.

Salary: $80,000-90,000

Anticipated start date: September 2025

Location: In person at Toronto City Hall. Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
