Cracking Down on Slumlords

Our top priority is protecting renters, and keeping people safe in their homes.

50% of Torontonians rent their homes. They have the right to live in a home that is safe, clean, and secure.

Too many families are forced to keep their clothing in plastic bags because of severe pest infestations. People living with mold and crumbling walls. Common areas that are unsafe and in disrepair.

When bad landlords neglect their tenants, the City has a responsibility to step up.

Mayor Chow's motion - Cracking Down on Bad Landlords - will move remedial action ahead. The City will be hiring contractors to carry out necessary repairs - and we will send the landlord the bill.
