We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations team. This person should have a passion for local democracy, opening up city hall, helping to connect communities to governance, and be a strong relationship builder.
Responsibilities
The Community Engagement Advisor will be directly responsible for building relationships with various communities across the city, with a goal of deepening their engagement in the democratic process at City Hall.
- Engages in relationship building and stewardship with communities and stakeholders across the city
- Ensures strong integration of the needs of stakeholders and communities into the work of legislative, communications, tour and constituency teams in the Mayor’s office
- Active outreach to communities, stakeholders, and local leaders
- Identifies needs and opportunities to build deeper relationships and democratic access across the city
- Monitors and actively responds to the external environment and anticipates future needs
- Works with other members of the Mayor’s Office to ensure coordination with council relations, community events, local media, communications, and the legislative and policy process
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Experience developing and executing projects
- Sound political judgement and stakeholder relations experience
- Deep knowledge of community and stakeholder networks across Toronto
- A commitment to driving equity and a passion for local democracy
- Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability
- Experience recruiting, building leadership, and organizing volunteers
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines, that involves working with multiple stakeholders
- Experience building common ground across diverse actors
- Proven ability to build and work with broad-based alliances and diverse groups
- A highly motivated leader and collaborator excited to take on challenges
- Experience in government or politics, especially at the municipal level, is an asset
- Community development experience is an asset
Application Procedure & Employment
Full-time contract for approximately 12 months (parental leave cover), with possibility of extension or transfer within the office depending on future needs.
Salary band: $70,000 - $90,000
Anticipated start date: August 12, 2024
Location: In person work at Toronto City Hall, with some travel throughout the city. Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
